SHERRY ANN

Sherry Ann was first introduced to me as an artist by a mutual friend who told me she was a trustworthy woman who had artistic talents that ranged from knitting to drawing to painting . What I found instead was a woman who was all that she was described as but also had so much more to offer. Sherry Ann has a way of finding humor in the mundane (she is the author and artist who created the comics on our humor page), and always seemed to look for a silver lining. She is a woman who is beautiful on the outside, but more importantly has a heart that is just as beautiful.

In regard to her artistic talent, Sherry Ann is the Unit Artist where she is incarcerated, has drawn commissioned pieces for the TX Prison Art Museum, and has created some wonderful work for BighouseArt.com. Her talent credits include being one of our advertising design artists whose recent work (as seen on the Graphics Arts page of this site) won the "2007 Best Poster Advertising Campaign Award" where competitors from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland all battled for that top honor. What makes her accomplishment even more amazing is that her competition were 'free world' artists who had access to the most up-to-date design material while Sherry Ann was working with pencils and basic drawing pads from inside a maximum security penitentiary. How amazing is that?

While Sherry Ann's talent is well recognized, her heart is what makes her so special to me. With no expectation on my part, Sherry Ann sent me several beanies to keep me warm, and has painted beautiful tigers for my daughter who adores the big cats. Everything that she does is from her heart and always unexpected when pleasantly received. She is such a wonderful woman who is such an inspiration and joy in my life.
