John is a good friend of mine and a wonderful human being. We met several years ago at a time when John's life was not at its happiest, though since then I have watched this man grow and learn to find a happiness that had been missing for years. John is extremely well-read, and someone who can pretty much discuss any topic that comes before him. His passion is world history, and his knowledge about both historical events and the sciences amazes me. Whether we are discussing astronomy or middle eastern history, John knows something about the subject and can teach me something that I did not know.

John has an inner strength that I can only wish to possess and has overcome so many obstacles in his life as he continues to move forward despite whatever challenges come his way. I find his sense of humor contagious, and watching him burst out with unbridled laughter makes me unable to hold back my own. John is not someone who will never tell you something just because it is what you want to hear, and has no problem letting you know that. He is also a person that reserves his trust for very few people, but once it is gained, he is like a brother. I am very happy to be able to call John my brother. I am also proud to be one who can call him by his nickname Lakeside.
